Glen James | who is Glen James?

Glen James started my millennial money at the start of 2018 and his focus has always been centered around helping Millennials (or anyone, really) make good money decisions.

As a former financial adviser with his own personal financial success behind him (even as a natural spender), Glen James has a passion to help people achieve financial freedom as he has. His experience working with his clients revealed the gap between the financial advice world and particular generations that need that knowledge, so he created a podcast for Millennials, my millennial money.

Glen presents with his own relaxed, conversational style of infotainment — information and knowledge wrapped in his trademark banter. He aims to teach in a light-hearted way while still managing to cover sensitive and important topics in an engaging way.

Still involved in financial advice networks, Glen is a regular presenter at various events, webinars, businesses and groups nationally. He is a regular contributor to a variety of national money publications, blogs and content creators.

Glen James and his journey into financial advice

Glen started his training and work life completing a telecommunications apprenticeship. He began building the fundamental skills it takes to learn, work hard, glean from those with experience, and ultimately succeed in providing any service-based business. Glen then began his journey in the advice world with a foot in the door and the drive to do whatever tasks were needed to gain experience and perform with excellence — even if that meant simply making coffee (another passion of his). He watched, observed, asked questions and used the guidance of mentors to learn best practice and how he could ultimately stand out as an adviser.

He then built his own business organically from the ground up (without debt!) in 2010, going on to win the 2016 national Client Experience Award as the highest rated financial planning business within the financial planning network he was a member of (Apogee Financial Planning). Glen went on to win the 2017 Adviser of the Year award with Apogee Financial Planning. In the same year, Glen was a top 3 finalist for the Association of Financial Adviser’s (AFA) Adviser of the Year award. This experience has since informed his passion for small business, customer experience and business success — something he encourages others to achieve.

the move to podcasting

Glen’s skill at launching projects has since been targeted at the creation of my millennial money and a family of podcasts around it. Centered around a community of listeners - the m3 community - these shows are designed to target listener curiosities, questions and areas of interest. The m3 community is the heart of what he does every day, with the podcasts designed to encourage, challenge, inform and entertain across a number of different shows, with various hosts and guests. He wants every listener to live life on their own terms by gaining the necessary knowledge in areas of personal finance, careers and property.

getting personal

Aside from making podcasts Glen loves good quality coffee (shout out to his particular favourites, Glee Coffee Roasters), R.M. Williams, quality handcrafted items like ceramic coffee mugs and plates, that are Australian made and particularly those made by small business, cars and four wheel driving out in the bush (see below), friends and family, and music (having ghost-written the lyrics of a chart-topping song himself). He also enjoys the beaches and lifestyle of where he lives in Newcastle. Glen is an active member of the Association of Financial Adviser’s of which he served as a non-executive member and is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

cars & toys

Glen has always had a passion for cars. He currently owns a 2014 Ford Ranger and a 2017 Lexus IS350 (F-Sport). Glen also owns a boat (SeaRay 240 SunDeck).

online resources and courses

Aside from the podcasts Glen has launched, he has also written a number of blogs and created a number of short courses and resources around personal finance. The crowd favourite is the Glen James Spending Plan, designed to help people kick-start their savings and automate their finances. He’s also released Glen’s Investing Night School, to provide an accessible and easy access point for those looking to invest in shares for the first time.

Glen James Net Worth

Glen was once asked at a live event what his net worth was, to which he replied with a grin, “it’s none of your business”.
